The Fundamental Movements

RELEASING THE RIB

Isolating pressure on the rib, begins the conversation we have under saddle with our leg and seat. For a young horse, the work through the rib is the beginning of understanding the leg and the start of lateral work. It is also one of the first combinations of separate movements - combining the hind leg, shoulder and poll, encouraging the horse to bend through the body, lift the back and take the head and next down and forwards. Ultimately this will lead to the horse taking the hand and allow you to ride correctly.
